Why do some car dealerships not display prices of the cars for sale on the forecourt? It's maddening and just doesn't make sense to me. Anyone know the reason?

Sales person prefers to be engaged in conversation ..a price could seem high as car mitht have low miles or br high spec.. You can look up online easily

A sticker price in the windscreen should have little relevance to what you actually pay for the car in the end anyway. If you have a car to trade in then the cost to change price is what is most important and that involves negotiation. Also do your research on prices of similar cars being sold elsewhere in advance so you have an idea of what other dealers want for theirs.

if you’re going to look at at particular car, then you should know what ball park it’s in.

Remember, a displayed price is only an invitation to tender. It’s not legal.

If it's a secondhand car - i.e. if it's the car you will actually buy should you proceed, then yeah, a displayed price makes sense. And that's the norm anyway. But with a new car, the choice is to either put the price of the most basic spec on the windscreen (which would probably necessitate having the most basic spec on display, which they probably want to avoid) or parking the highest spec up on display but where a high price might deter people.

Ideally, they should display the price range from most basic to totally maxed out.

Everything is done online now. No one shops around a forecourt without seeing the car online first. If anything it will discourage time wasters walking around the lot

The main problem with online car browsing is that people generally have to have a specific car in mind. When cars were for sale in say the evening herald. There was less choice but you could ho through all cars advertised and see a bargain

looking at the momeent plenty of cars on donedeal with POA on them.

my personal annoyance is when the sales rep says "this car owes me" guess what I don't care what you paid for it.

Sold and bought a lot of cars on it before the internet was going strong.
