Lump Sum Investment

I have a lump sum that I was thinking about putting into bonds.

However, I want to wait until after the US election is over and everything settles down.

Therefore, I'm thinking of a fixed term deposit to cover the interim. Where would I get the best return?

Any other advice greatly appreciated.

Raisin and Trade Republic are are still the best. You might have to split your lump sum between them, depending on how much you have. Both will pay monthly interest until you're ready to move the money on.

Because I assumed, in my inexperience, that this is the best return (and that I could have access at any time to my money). I have had money invested in bonds before, on the advice of a financial advisor.

"Bonds" is a vague term.

Do you mean direct purchase and ownership of Govt bonds, held in a stockbrokers account like DeGiro?

I have done this recently. I bought the bonds below par, as the capital gain on Irish Govt bonds is tax-free.

Or do you mean buying a bond fund? Like a managed fund that owns bonds? Or a bond ETF?

Bear in mind that over the long-term, bonds do not give the best return, of the four main asset classes.

The best return is from holding shares.

It was a managed fund with one of the big companies.

Government bonds sounds interesting.

Shares are somewhat risky obviously, but you can mitigate your risk by buying into and holding rock solid shares, there will be ups and downs but over an extended timeframe you should do OK. Here's an example.

If you're only holding for less than 6 months then just stick it in a high interest deposit account and withdraw whenever you're ready to invest.
