all, hope this is the right section but I’m after some advice please on repairing a rain jacket.

It’s got a very small tear around bellybutton height… close to the zip and about half a centimetre in diameter… It’s a garment I’m rather fond of, nice looking, very comfortable to wear and a great fit….cost about €220 back in the day also. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It’s jet black, hopefully I could be advised what patch or procedure would work best, just want to preserve it’s waterproof aspect and prevent the rip enlarging as it will be inclined to do with use and wear over time..I was thinking maybe a glue on waterproof patch that I could replicate on the non damaged side so as to look part of the design and less conspicuous… ?

Anyway, you guys are the experts and help will be much appreciated…

I have repaired sailing jackets and legs with spinnaker repair tape, you'll get it in any chandlery/sailing shop, about a tenner a roll.

Clean the fabric, make sure it's bone dry, and stick on both sides (if you can get at the underneath, just outside will do if not).

Round off the edges of your patch so the corners don't start to lift.

+1 for tenacious tape. Ripped a new rain jacket years ago, repaired it inside and out with said tape. Jacket lasted about 10 years of frequent use until it became less than waterproof. The repair is still in place
