Emergency Tax On New Job And Very Old Job Showing As Active

Hi, I recently came off welfare to start a new job. I gave my ppsn number to my new employer. Revenue website states it's the new employer's job to register the job and request an RPN so I don't get emergency taxed.

However, I still got emergency taxed and was told by my employer that I would need to contact Revenue to have everything switched over so I don't get emergency taxed.

I really can't afford to be emergency taxed as I took a job that is 86 euros less than my weekly welfare payment and currently waiting for the 100 euro back- to -work dividend to pass which takes 2 to 3 weeks. As far as I know, emergency tax lasts 4 weeks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm completely ignorant about this. Also, A job I ceased in 2017 is showing up as still active on ros.ie from the year 2019. How do I sort that out?

Thanks so much for your help.

In ROS transfer all your tax credits to the new job.

That said, welfare may be the issue: if you were on a benefit, not an allowance, then there may be tax due on it.

You can close your old job off online or if you ring revenue they will do it for you. This was the issue for my daughter that had 2 employments showing and when the old employment was closed off she had her emergency tax back in the following weeks pay.

How do you do that? I'm in the same predicament.

Not sure Revenue did it for me in the end. Ring them I found them quite helpful.

Just sign into your ros account and shut down ur old job. The tax should work itself out the following week once your current job is closed off.

You may not be able to end it. But taking all the tax credits away from it has the same effect.
