Any tips for buying holiday gift vouchers?

I'd like to buy my sister a gift voucher so she can go on holiday abroad with her kids next year.

My first plan was eurocamp but the don't do gift vouchers.

Has anyone bought one or Neen given one that turned out to be a good holiday?

    Thank You

Main tip would be to make sure the name on the voucher matches the name she has on her passport.

I'd just pick an amount and offer to put it towards whatever she wants to do - buying a voucher just limits her options really.

This - people need to stop buying gift vouchers. People think cash is so unthoughtful, but a gift voucher in reality is "I couldn't be bothered getting you an actual present, I'll let you do that but at the same time severely limit your choices - oh and use it immediately before the company goes bust"

Give them cash/bank transfer - it makes it so much easier to use and if there is money over then that can be spent on other treats.

Thanks for you thoughts on this. I feel like I've opened a can of worms.

There's a couple of reasons that a gift voucher works for us.

    1. I know the kind of places she'd love to go and therefore can choose something she'd definitely use and enjoy
    2. Her current financial situation means that any cash gifts are used for essentials*. If I gave her cash she would feel obliged to use it on anything but a holiday.
    3. I get a voucher of my choice each year as a work perk through that scheme. I don't know what it's called. So, in girl math, that's free money and therefore a win win.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I'll keep researching my original question elsewhere.

*yes, I help with the essentials already

I prefer to buy holiday gift vouchers for destinations here in Ireland. It's much easier for family or friends to use the vouchers for staycations then to travel abroad and there are plenty of really nice places. Last time I bought a gift voucher for my sister and her husband for a luxury weekend getaway to Powercourt Springs Health Farm on https://www.hotelandsparesorts.com/ and it was a huge hit.
