Replacement Water booster pump - are there ‘silent’ models ?

Our Tucson SBP 100 has had a leak for quite a while and now makes a higher pitched noise when boosting. It was always noisier than ideal.

A Plumber has taken a look and reckons a replacement is needed.

I’m seeing pumps advertised as ‘quieter’ or ‘one of the most silent ‘ etc. but just wondering if anyone has any practical experience here. Current pump is located in the house and on concrete.

I replaced an older Monsoon with a reconditioned Stuart Turner and it's night and day in terms of noise. The monsoon was always noisy, but the soft-start on the newer pump makes a lot of difference.

One thing to add is that I have flex-couplings on all four pipes in/out of my pump - you have solid copper and that does transfer the noise quite a bit more. Ask the plumber to price-up swapping over to the flex couplings supplied with the pump.

And throw a foam pad underneath, only costs €20 and it helps a bit...

These aren't going to prevent that noise going out through the pipework, and I'd suspect that's the channel that most is propagating through. Good couplers resolve that.

Oh, absolutely. Just meant it's worth throwing one of those under the pump while doing the test if the work, given it's cheap and easy

Sure can. It adds 20mm to the height of the pump though and this won't work under solid copper.

will go with pad and ask for flex couplings.

Recommendation was for a Scala 2

I’ve seen some posts talking about problems with that model and others that suggest the original problems have been ironed out

anyone got experience with the Scala2?

the older model Scala 2 gave problems but they seem too have fixed the issues.

I’ve fit hundreds of Scala 2s and very little issues.
