    HI,

2 weeks ago I picked up 242 Skoda Superb Combi diesel.

Last Friday Morning i got 4 errors on the screen and lost all ACC, Lane assist etc. (I contacted the dealer and they are doing what they should do etc. i.e. take it in , run diagnostics and fix.)

Just wondering is anyone else has experienced this on Skodas. ? _(or was i just unlucky to get a faulty car)

Maybe i should take it up with Skoda directly ?

    below are errors

    thks

    1. Lane Assist is unavailable.
    2. Lane Assist is unavailable. Please consult owners manual.
    3. Front assist is unavailable.
    4. Proactive occupant protection system is restricted.

dealer will fix it that what the warranty is for

I had owned Octavia for one year and it was a lemon, issues after issues so sold it and not going near Skodas

The 2004 to 2013 Octavias were bullet proof along with the 2013 to 2017 models.

After these models I've heard of issues

Not hearing great things about the electrics in the newer models.

Its under warranty so should be fine to fix.

It’s same with VW cars in general I think. After 2019/20 it’s downhill quality. I had so many issues with my 2022 Golf I will never go near a VW again. Made sure to get rid of it before warranty was out

Looking at going Toyota now myself. Was considering Golf or Skoda again but think I'll avoid.

I had ongoing issues with my 2021 Superb Combi, mostly around the traffic sign recognition camera but others with the Columbus infotainment system and front assist. I eventually had them resolved with a camera replacement and full software rewrite to all the control modules. I've lost count of the number of times that the car went in for diagnostics and the dealer who finally resolved it had the car for two separate days (diagnostic, one day, camera software update, one day) and then another three full days to replace the camera and upload the software to the control modules. All covered under warranty apart from one diagnostic charge that was never refunded. I wouldn't like to think what it'd all have cost out of warranty.

All the above took place during the three years that I owned the car with the final resolution happening just a few months ago. I sold the car as soon as it was finally fixed and the warranty was up soon after. It was my third Superb and my last.

OP, it'll all get sorted under warranty so don't worry about that part of it but I'd be wary of owning the car outside of warranty. All the software is now controlled by codes (SWaP codes) that are unique to the manufacturer and so updates are only available by connecting to the factory servers. An independent specialist may be able to provide that service but it's unlikely to be much cheaper than a main dealer given the costs involved.

Unfortunately VW/Skoda now get their customers to do the beta testing on the new models, it took them years to resolve the mk4 Octavia infotainment issues.

Similar issues to yours on the new Kodiaq too.

Vw customers were beta testing their tsi engines and dsg boxes when they were first introduced so nothing new in this approach

Garage was telling me that this is a common problem across all non electric vw family cars and they think a recall is coming

to add to discussion also had electronic faults on radio where sound would just not work randomly maybe once every 2/3 weeks. Had to turn car off for 5/10 min min to resolve. Also had front assist fail and come back multiple times. Had whole steering rack replaced etc too, all under warranty. Would never choose a VW again or own one out of warranty. I’d say would have cost me thousands. Also a front sensor failed and they tried to get me to pay until I kicked up a huge stink as car was in and out of Joe Duffy multiple times. Bar the new service manager, the old one was completely not interested and just kept stating that they had multiple issues on different cars with electrical issues etc. basically just making out my issue wasn’t unique or special. 6 weeks I had a rental car , thankfully covered by them but was not same standard at all, which they stated it would be. Complained and all I got was basically you’re lucky to have a car and severe lack of giving 2 sh1ts !

    never ever again!

Those are all driver assist features, just make sure there's nothing obvious blocking any of the cameras or radar systems used by the car before you head for the dealers.

Generally they're not electrical or electronic issues, they're software. The VAG group pretty much use the same software across their cars and therefore they tend to have the same problems.

There is a stable software version that resolves most of these but it can be very difficult to get a dealer to update your car as a matter of course, you have to push it.

    Hi OP,

2 skoda household here (22 Octavia and Karoq)

Both cars get that warning sometimes especially on misty /foggy/ dewy morning s/ evenings from start up. It usually disappears a minute or two after driving (I assume it's when a sensor is wet).

Octavia did have to go back in for a software update and sensor which has solved all issues touch wood (about 9 months ago).

Just to counteract the statements above we are very happy with both cars and would gladly go back to another VAG product. Superb combi looks lovely but massive!

    update:

2 weeks ago i brought the car back to the dealer.

the diagnosed and ran a software update, did a test drive and everything was fine.

last Friday Sept 7, the same issue occurred again. 5 error all related to lane assist, ACC…etc.

spoke to the dealer and they are saying that Skoda are aware of an issue and are working on a solution (seems that there a a good few more with the same problem). they offered no timeline as they are waiting on Skoda to send the update.

looks like i am stuck with this issue for a while.

however i am going to reach out directly to Skoda customer care to try and help things move along.

    update 2:

    I  called Skoda customer care

They said to speak to the dealers. I explained that i already had spoken to them

They asked was it an issue related to the camera ...i confirmed that is was and explained lane assist, ACC, distance control errors etc. They said that it was a problem that they are aware of and they are waiting for the factory to issue an update to resolve the problem

they could not give me a eta on the resolution except that it would likely be weeks and not months

I ask for a contact number/person from the factory but they did not give it to me (factory are not customer facing).

I did lodge a formal complaint and received a complete reference number

looks like thats all I can do for now

“we will fix it with an update later “ approach at it’s finest. Too many regulations to follow and too many whistles that are not needed for a day to day motoring in car now.

OP good luck with it hope they fix it soon

    Hi all,

I have been following up with both the dealer and Skoda Ireland Customer service.

both are saying that they are witing for the factory to send the update to the technical team and ultimately on to the dealer technicians.

no one has given me an eta except that is is more likely to be weeks/months instead of years.

Ive a '22 Octavia at home and it gets a load of front collision errors, lane departure errors first thing on cold/frosty/foggy mornings. They would clear up after 5/10 minutes.

As others have said, it was due to the sensors being covered in condensation in the morning.

A different fault and make but the thread could be worth reading. The end result is in post #66 https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058367813/new-car-engine-problems

Agreed. I had a 2016 octavia, perfect car, sold it last month after 8 years to go electric, never had one issue with it.

Persuaded my wife to get a 2021 octavia, not a good car, plenty of issues with infotainment and then dealer would just restart it when she bought it in, they never replaced it. She sold it before the warranty was up as she could see an issue down the line.
