Hi guys,I have recently got a gilera runner 2 stroke 180,it starts everytime no problem, does not cut out,now iv noticed the temp gauge rising, tried removing the lid of the coolant to clear system, but it' seems to be rising out of it, bubbles threw it,there is no crazy smoke from exhaust to indicate the head gasket,or water mixn wit oil

    oil pump?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭dub drifter

Would that leave bubbles in the coolant oil pump ? What about thermostat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭dub drifter

Why do yiu think its the oil pump ? Yeah started it again mate, bubbles & coolant are coming rite out of the exspansion,if i have to cap off,and noticed temp going near the red, after abow 10 min,so kocked it off

If there are bubbles in the coolant either exhaust gas is entering the system(head gasket or cracked cylinder wall) or there is an airlock in the coolant system and it needs to be bled. I would try to bleed the system properly first and if it is over heating still it will need testing to determine if the head gasket has failed. A failing water pump may also give cavitation and overheating issues. This is a 2t engine so I imagine there is no oil in the crankcase to get contaminated with water. The 2t oil is automatically mixed with the fuel. So there would be no mayonnaise in the oil to point towards a gasket failure.

Also do not remove the coolant cap on the expansion bottle when it is hot and running as it will boil out when pressure is released. These systems are designed to run under pressure so opening under pressure will push coolant out. The same way if you shake a bottle of coke and open the cap, the liquid under pressure will bubble out

Hi man,ye see the fela who sold me it said he just put it bk an the rd just weeks ago,i think he may hav threw fluids in an top of old,the bike fires up startn, like it does have good compress..no smoke frm exhaust,ye mate wen i put the new coolant in,somehow the bubbles started and it shot dirty murky coolant out of the expan..bottle,and not my gud bardohl, dat i put in,ye think i really.need to bleed de whole system,,hav you any idea how i do this an a bike ?

YOu need to fill up the coolant system and locate the bleeding nipple on the system. They are usually near the thermostat housing. If you can find a maintenance manual for the bike online or ask in the gilera forums. Good luck

I fcked up mate,i started bike, then i let it heat up to half an the temp, knocjed the engine off then loosened de bleed, let it out all de dirty water coolant, and then gud coolant came in,it was all going well, was trying to tighten back up,and de bleed valve jumped out,and all de coolant flowed bk out an to the ground

Just put the bleed screw back in. Fill with water for now. I wouldn't run the engine, just fill up and open the bleed screw. When water comes out then seal up the bleed screw and run the engine. Then turn off after its heated a bit and open the bleed screw to let any air out. Run engine again and see if the over heating is gone. No point wasting antifreeze at this stage. If the over heating is sorted you can top up the expansion bottle with good antifrezze open the bleed screw and keep toping up until the new antifreeze comes through.

Ah yeah i see watt ye mean,I shudnt of heated de engine up 1st,so i bleed 1st to get de coolant threw ,thrn run de engine, and then bleed again,to get the actual air out,ah okay i see nw,tell me dis jp,does dem bleed valves go bk in turning to the rite, cause i cud of swore, there de opposite, why it came out an me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭JP 1800

Yes fill with coolant then bleed. Then run engine and bleed again. Those bleed screws or nipples usually go left to open and right to close. You only need to close them finger tight until the final bleed is done then nip up with a spanner, don't over tighten. I think the bleed nipple is near the top of the engine

either the bleed nipple tread or more likely the tread into the housing is damaged. You could try wrapping some teflon tape or plumbers tape to help seal the tread. To repair properly a re-tap and larger diameter nipple is required or helicoil. Was it damaged when you removed it?

Sorry been busy with work,I did order a new bleed valve,so that taking one week to arrive . So I actually tried to put my old one back in with teflon tape, fell from my hand into the frame, still can't find it,definitely think my bike is cursed.cause today i have no coolant in bike, and now it start leaking from this spot .Can anybody tell me what part this is,and is this why my temp is rising ?
