Car Service

    Hi all,

Just a very general question about the type of service needed for a car that I am hoping others may help with and lend some advice.

I have a 171 Petrol SUV car and live in the Dublin suburbs. The car is not used for work so is used little Monday to Friday apart from short runs and then again more frequent short run at the weekend. It probably does on average about 4,000 KM per year so not that much and less than the national average.

Bought the car second hard from a main dealership in May 2022 and in very good condition. It has only been serviced twice since then, and both being minor/general services where little needed to be done and quick checks (approx €130 per service). The last service was in November 2023. All NCTs do date have been passed without issue and no advisory warnings and the next NCT is not until May 2022.

So my question is what type of service should I look do to now as I think at least once a year may be needed if people agree? Should I do an interim or full service also? Any advice would help.

    Thanks,

    D

Oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter and a general check.

Change the oil and filter check everything else.

How many kms are on the car now? Do you know if the spark plugs were ever changed? They should be changed every 50k or so.

Thanks all so far for the comments.

I just checked and see that it has 71,000 KM on the clock. After doing a few more calculations, and some of this may be because we travelled around Ireland more during some Covid months, we may be doing on average around 7,000 or 8,000 KM per year.

I don't know about previous services but I see the last service, which was in October 2023 and where the clock was 63,000 KM, was a basic service that consisted of oil, oil filters filters, weights, weight balances, 1 new tyre. Not sure if it included spark plugs or any other checks mentioned above. Service was also not in a dealership and was in one of the Fast Fit Firststop tyres and car services places.

    Thanks,

    D

Just get the oil & oil filter changed and get a trusted mechanic to check over all the other components.
