Just got on to them to upgrade to Sky Q - they wanted €150.00 installation charge.

Told them where to go with that.

You can upgrade to Sky Q at no extra cost.

    Upgrade online

     or call

    0818 500 068

     - we'd advise doing this as soon as possible to avoid long wait times.

I wonder did you say upgrading from an SD box to Sky Q?? I have a Sky HD box and I am inundated with offers to upgrade to sky Q foc. I want to upgrade to a newer SKY HD box and when trying to pair card I am pushed to sky q.

You may have got a sharp CS rep, saw money sign.

You could get a second hd box and then upgrade.

It is the HD box - I reckin you could be right - agent saw dollar signs and tried it on.

Anyway I got on to the loyalty team and am waiting for a call back about it - I dont mind changing to Q but this is their doing not mine - my box is working fine and Id as easily stay as I am if I wasnt being pushed into it.

The HD box will still work, is it causing problems? And you can still get them secondhand.

    I still have 4 hd boxes, I see Sky Q as a step backwards…

I have an original PACE box and works perfectly and 3 spares, with RF outputs.

A lot of friends have gone over to sky Q and like it but were shocked when it dawned on them if they cancel sky want box back and new lnb is no good for FTA. The prices friends are paying are horrendous.

If anyone is struggling with this, I have a 2TB Sky+ HD box that was retired about 2 years ago that is free to take away.

I think I even have the original packaging for it.

    Available from West Dublin.

    PM me if interested.

I'm sorry but I'm very confused and wondering can someone help. My parents have the old sky+ box - 2 boxes actually, one in front room and other in the back living room. I had no idea they were retiring the old boxes, I pay the bill and don't recall receiving an email about this. I just came across it now because I saw the bill on my statement and it was 76e and decided to go into my account and see why it's suddenly so expensive. There is an offer for Sky Signature upgrade but I don't know what Sky Signature is - there is an image of a different box - will they provide us with new boxes if I get this? Just recently the volume and mute buttons on the remote controls have stopped working and I'm just wondering is this the reason, because they are retiring the boxes? I checked the model we have against those listed on the website and can't see it.

Sky+ receivers are HD, so they won't be retiring those.

Edit: Just to clarify, based on the information provided in the posts below, are the Sky+ boxes HD or SD?

The newer boxes are SkyQ, might work out cheaper as a second box, SkyQ mini, is wirelessly connected to the main box. Depends on what subscription package you've on for the two existing boxes.

First five years of Sky+, there was no HD; and even then SD Sky+ was offered for probably another five years after.

Good info, didn't remember all that. So lots of those boxes will be reaching end of life very soon.

@leahyl, its taking ages to migrate from SD boxes to HD boxes and SKY are taking the opportunity to move people to SKY Q wherever possible but the snag is sky change the lnb type and if you cancel you have to send the box back and cant hook up a free to air box. In your case you could source a SKY HD box via adverts, ring sky and they should pair the card to it but they will push sky Q. And as you have 2 boxes, ie multiroom you would need 2 sky hd boxes but the box that was used for SKY HD multiroom is different to a SKY HD box!! so sky may not allow multiroom. SKYQ multi room needs broadband.

    here is the sky info

My mother still on a Skyplus box not sure if it’s Hd. Can you have Q without wifi? She has none as she has no need for it?

wouldn’t a hybrid lnb resolve this? I asked the installer nicely and he put one in for me

I also have a sky+ HD box free to a good home. I was going to take the hard drive out and bin the rest but it would be a shame if someone was looking for one.

Are Sky + and Sky + HD boxes going to be replaced by Sky, giving customers newer Sky boxes?

    HD boxes aren't affected.

Not sure what the arrangements are for the replacement of SD boxes.

I had a HD box, wasn't looking for it to be replaced but Sky rang me about changing to a Q box.

They rang my elderly mother today, is there any negative to switching her to Sky Q? The installation and box are free.

You give the sky q box back if you ever cancel unlike old hd boxes etc. still use my hd box as a free view box. Good chance you’ll lost that free view option if they put a certain lnb on dish. Probably others

Sky stopped working for me, dunno why, they suggested upgrade to Sky Q, installed today, looking at box it's a very old first generation box, doesn't support UHD or, HDR , or multiroom (works one mini box) which didn't come either, even though I'm paying for multi room, disaster.

Will all need replacing, not happy with a 2016 box with a crap picture and no multiroom. Downgrade this , not an upgrade
