Restricted Content New User

I am trying to create a throwaway account for privacy reasons. I registered as stone_whisperer, but stone_whisperer has no permissions to any forum. Email was confirmed.

the new account is in applicant status and doesn't have Registered Users 2 group which will allow access until it's fixed.

This is a known issue in the regional forums, it is nothing to do with restricting content to new users.

A new user group 'Registered Users 2' has been created to address this. New users should all be members of this group by default.

This is still an issue for the new user stone_whisperer. Are all newly created users getting put into the wrong (old) permissions groups now?

Can new users recently created be migrated to the correct (new) permission group? Or is the old permission group going to be fixed permanently my Vanilla?

Are new users prevented from using the site these days while the bug is present?

I can wait, just wondering what the state of play is currently.

stone_whisperer doesn't have those groups, that account is in the applicant group due to it being auto detected as a re-reg. New users are auto enrolled into the registered users 2 group otherwise, but the applicant status overrides it. At this point stone_whisperer is already useless for privacy since it's now public anyway. But a new account will get marked as applicant as well. I'm not really sure what we can do, unless Mike can override it for a new and still private account.

I can override the "applicant" status if the user wishes to create another account for private posting. Please bear in mind that a user is permitted to have a secondary account to post in specific forums only, "personal issues and relationship issues".

The user can private message me to figure this all out or alternatively they can email the office on, hello@boards.ie.

Has Vanilla officially given up supporting their product? What is their SLA? I thought the reason of moving to a SaaS was to get a stable platform. There are multiple other problems such as forms which give a 504 (Cloudflare) error when a new post is made.

Vanilla has not given up supporting their product nor has Boards.ie given up on ensuring issues are dealt with. Vanilla are actively working on issues that appear across this site and countless others. I make daily check-ins with Vanilla Support and I am constantly pushing for stability and functionality.

This is not a bog standard Vanilla product, it is heavily customised and altered to suit the needs of site users, moderators and employees. The needs of users are constantly changing and upgrading, this database is massive and complex, it has pre-existing functions that make the site what it is and with all that comes new challenges that have to be overcome. I will admit that sometimes it is challenging but remember that Boards.ie could not hope to continue in its previous format. This is not a perfect product currently but every effort is being made to make it so.

Yeah, I guess my IP was used to flag stone_whisperer as a re-reg. That's OK, I wanted to flag it anyway in case genuinely new users were also getting blocked by the present bug.
