Ryanair Baggage Pooling

I've booked for myself and a friend flying to Biarritz with Ryanair next month. We've paid for two checked in bags- one 10kg and one 20kg.

We now realise that we should have booked two X 20kg bags instead. (Because of onward travel arrangements, we can only have a maximum of two bags).

I contacted their chat line and the agent said to just book an additional 10kg bag and, as our baggage allowance will be pooled anyway, we can just check in two X 20kg bags in the airport (rather than 1X20kg and 2X10kg).

Is this correct? We don't want to turn up at the airport and get a nasty surprise with a late check in penalty!

Their T and Cs are that you can pool bags on same booking. You might need the help of ryanair staff when you get to airport though as above poster says, machines won't know that.

Thanks-good point. I'll go to the desk rather than using the machines. I've kept screen shots of the conversation with their customer services where they assured me that we could do this, but I wouldn't hold my breath with RA!!!!

I wouldn't count on it. The machine will ask you to place each bag on the scales separately. It's expcting 2 x 10kg and 1 x 20kg and you can't explain to a machine that you're pooling your bags!

That's what I was concerned about. I guess I'll do as Watchclocker suggests and go to a desk to check in bags rather than use the machines. It's been a while since I checked in a bag and couldn't remember if the machines ask you how many bags you have or not!

you can - the machine will expect 40kg and will allow you to check that in as long as the bag total doesn’t breach.
