Carrauntoohill mountain

Long shot here looking for Guidance
Looking to do Carrauntoohill between now and 28th August
I am a 2.5 hour drive from Carrauntoohill so need to plan in advance.
I have climbed it before and I know its not worth climbing if the weather is not great - from a safety point of view and just general scenery etc

I have checked the various weather apps......yr.no. mountain-forecast, met.ie etc, it just all looks bleak for the next 10 or so days

Does anyone with a better knowledge advise if any of the days look decent in this time specifically for the mountain itself

There's also a fourth route, which the IMRA and I use. Sou, sou, west of the peak using part of the Kerry Way. It was handy coming down this way in zero visibility following a wire fence once, when a front came in way, way faster than had been forecast.

As you say, it doesn't look great on a mountain for the next 10 days. Maybe Monday, the 26th??? Even so, I'd start out very early and caution anyway is better than valour when it comes to Carrauntoohil.

thanks. yeah, Monday 26th looks ok, but not great, I may just have to put it off to another time.

seems a lot of wind, cloud and rain - you definitely don't want that on Carrauntoohill!

For anyone that has a better knowledge of weather than simply looking at met.ie, mountain-forecast etc

any good days over the next week or so? would like to do with little rain and high clouds so I have a view

Tbh, there's no weather forecast going to tell you the conditions on Carrauntoohill on any given day, it could be nice and Sunny in Killarney and you could have zero visibility and driving rain on Carrauntoohill at the same time.

If you're going to attempt this be sure you can navigate in zero visibility or at least have someone with you who can.

While mountains like Brandon and Errigal have well defined tracks for the most part, Carraun has multiple tracks leading off the top and can lead to confusion even for experienced walkers.

climbed it yesterday. all the weather apps were all over the place, even up to 2/4/6 hours in advance, they just kept changing

nice climb, took myself and the 10 year old 2hrs 35 mins to reach the top via devils ladder.

it did not rain. very foggy and overcast at very top, we actually stayed on top for about an hour in the hope it would clear but no luck………. but then about an hour after leaving the top, turned in to a lovely evening with decent warm sun
