Hi all. I'm trying to check if I can repaint my camper myself. The cab body seems to have a plastic coat on top of the paint which is peeling. Do I have to remove the coating before I can repaint it? The camper body is dimpled and patterned. Can I paint straight on this surface or do i have to prep it somehow? There is also a plastic coating on the plastic trims which is discolored and which is also peeling. How do I brighten the trims? Thanks for your advice.

The whole thing will need a sand before new paint will stick to it. I’m planning on roller painting mine next year with rust oleum paint after seeing some good results on YouTube. Endfloat, an Irish channel did a car with it recently. Carbon paints in Dublin will colour match it too if you need it.

I roller painted my old bongo with rustoleum - it's brilliant on the metal surfaces but the adherance to the plastic isn't brilliant - it will lift if power hosed too agressively etc.

I would say look into coach enamel paint. It’s formulated for paint/roller and can be mixed in whatever colour you want.

Thanks. But seems to be available only in Dublin. I'm in Clare. Postage will maybe, double the price? Might check out the Rustoleum mentioned by the other posters.

I rustoliumed my old T4. In the end I redid it three times every other year. It works and it can be excellent but if your looking for that new car finish it's a hell of a lot of work. Any failures in prep will peal easily.

I was happy with what I achieved but it's a lot of work to get good results.

Thanks for the 'warning'. Looks like the hard part is the prep and once that is good, most paints will look good :)

Painting is all about the prep I’m afraid. There’s a million videos on YouTube as guides anyway.
Check out Vinny Byrne paints. They deliver nationwide. I got some colour matched paint and a few other bits off them last year and I don’t remember the postage being very much.
