Property Inheritance Tax Query

    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to ask this question as I can't find an explanation anywhere.

Some context, my partner is an only child and we had the idea of moving into her family home (A home she has lived all her life, 25+ years) and paying rent to her parents. It would be then, that once the time comes it would be handed down to her.

My question would be, because we are together, would I be required to pay inheritance tax on the house due to the owners of the property not being a relation of mine therefor I don't fall under the gift amount etc?

And secondly, would it make at all any difference if we were married instead of being a cohabiting couple?

    Thank you :)
