New Eir fibre installation

Hi, first-time poster looking for some advice with my Internet connection. For the past few years I was using eir mobile broadband. We had a mesh system installed in the house to improve download speeds: a TPLink Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE took the signal from the mobile broadband in the attic, and in turn ran the Internet through two cables: one to a WiFi unit in the landing, the second to a connection box in the sitting room for TV. Speeds were normally 30-40mbps.

Fibre became available in our area and Eir installed it into our attic. We have a F3000 modem in the attic now. When I connect my phone directly to the F3000 for WiFi I am getting speeds of 400mbps. I thought it would be a simple case of removing the ethernet cable for the mobile broadband from the TPLink device, and connecting an ethernet cable from the F3000 to the TPLink. However, when I do this the speed drops to 40mbps. I've also switched off the WiFi on the F3000.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm no expert in all this, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There could be multiple issues here

    1. what's the make/model of the wifi unit in the landing?
    2. What's the Ethernet rating of the cables coming from the switch?
    3. Do you have a computer with an Ethernet port (whether buit-in or a USB 3/C adaptor) that you could check the speed of the ethernet cables.

Thanks for the reply. I'll need to check the make/model of the WiFi unit in the landing, as well as the speed of the ethernet cables on a PC. I did buy a Cat 6 ethernet cable to go from the F3000 to the TPLink unit as my understanding was this would be suitable for up to 1,000mbps.

Oddly enough I ran a speed test on my phone a little earlier and it hit 300mbps, but then on the next test it dropped back down to 40mbps.

I'm wondering if I reset both the F3000 and the TPLink would that start the connection 'fresh', so to speak.
