NCT retest

    When you fail NCT are you guaranteed to get an appt within the 30 days? Have an NCT tomorrow and the online system is showing no appointments off months. So if the car fails does that mean I will just have to get the full retest as I wont be able to get an appt in the 30 days?

    If you call them they should be able to put you on a priority list. Have a look tonight around 11.30pm and you will see cancelled/available tests returned to the booking pool.

    You might be lucky and it's a visual retest say for a blown bulb, bald tyre etc and no appointment is required, you just turn up and they do a visual check that the work was done.

    No need for the above. You’ll easily get a retest within 5 days once you fail the test

    Im a bit of expect on this at the moment unfortunately, ring them and will get appointment for retest in time

    When you log into the website if you fail, you'll get offered dates for retest within the window. It's a different list to full test. If it's just a visual, you don't need an appointment.

    It passed the NCT but on the drive home I realised that it wasn't going into gears, it just popped back into 3rd when I put it into 5th. Drove it into a carpark to check if it was still going to reverse etc and it was like the gear stick was floppy, wouldn't stay in any gear but popped back to the center. So now I have to have it towed to my garage 30 mins away as not safe to drive 😅 and let the shop of the carpark know that I am broken down in their carpark and hope they won't clamp me.
