I was out yesterday and found out that my current clothes for golfing in rain is in no way shape of form, waterproof.

So I'm on the lookout for some quality wet gear. Ideally trousers and jacket.

    Thanks

The "best" is probably Galvin Green, but its very pricey. Lasts forever though if well cared for. You can often find previous year stuff on clearance/special on the likes of Function18 and others.

After that, its the usual suspects, Sunderland, Proquip, Footjoy etc. all very good. IMO its worth paying a little more for Goretex if you can. I've a pair of Sunice Goretex trousers that have lasted quite a few years.

Depends if you want it for summer or winter.

Mostly a waste during summer months with raised temps.

Pair of shorts, light marino wool top. Brolly for the bag / brolly for the player. You will come in none the worst. and you won't be melted..

Even the best gortex brands give out.. CG pants replaced 3 times in 18 months by one of my playing partners.

For trousers you can't go wrong with these and a great price. water falls off them!

I prefer them to my Galvin Green!

Got a Galvin Green jacket two or three years back, and it has been a great investment.

Played competition in bad conditions a couple of weeks ago. Came in fully dry 'on top' but trousers hadn't done it's job so shorts were quite wet (and uncomfortable!). Have now splashed (!) out on a G.G. trousers. Expensive but I reckon it's worth it to be sure of being dry, and it's guaranteed to last.

I bought a Sunderland rain suit a few years ago. I think it was around 230 euro in a sale. I find it quite good. My son has a Galvin Green suit and its excellent if very pricey.

It very much upsets me that we are talking about this in August…

I bought a new waterproof jacket start of July and I reckon I've worn it almost weekly since then, sometimes maybe only for a quick shower but it's still got some use. In my naive mind I thought it wouldn't be needed until the winter

I bought a pair of these. How did you find the sizing? I'm a 34 waist roughly in jeans and chinos but I've had to go to a 38 in these. The 36 waist is too tight in her upper legs. The 38 are more comfortable but they are unwearable without a belt and do give an overall baggy look.

I bought a pair too and found them quite tight until I realised they're meant to be worn as a regular trousers, not an over-trousers! Fitting well now, if a little shorter on the leg than would be ideal to protect ankles (socks). They do fit a little on the smaller size.

Does anyone have a style or type of winter jacket that provides decent rain protection? I just find the 100% waterproof layers never sit right on my arms, I find them to get baggy and loose.

I like something to be snug fitting, warm, and decently dry! I don’t play through 18 holes in torrential showers like some of the hardcore lads, just something that can keep me comfortable if it opens up for a few holes.

Some lads I play with use a short sleeve fully waterproof 1/2 zup for the same reason you say. More freedom. Personally I don't like the feeling but each to the their own. Worth a look anyway. Otherwise you'll find some half zips or light jackets that are water repellent. Maybe suitable for you in showers rather than a downpour.

    Natural wool pullover/jumper.

    Two layers for winter.

    Better than any synthetic options.
