Basic sciences for NSB in GEM

    Hi everyone,

I’ve applied to the GEM (Graduate Entry Medicine) program at University College Cork (UCC) and am currently awaiting an offer on August 8th. I’ve completed the GAMSAT with a good score, which should support my application.

As a non-science background (NSB) student with a background as a paramedic, I’m particularly interested in the curriculum for the first two years of the program. I’m already familiar with subjects like anatomy and physiology. However, I would like to understand more about the basic sciences included, specifically physical chemistry and biochemistry.

For NSB students, how challenging are these subjects, and are they taught from the ground up or is there an assumption of prior knowledge? Any insights or experiences from current or former students would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!
