Myself and my husband own a mid terrace ex council house built c. 1963 in North Kildare.
There is a kitchen and garage extension already on the house that extends backwards into the garden. Behind the back wall of the kitchen, there is an ‘outhouse’ style WC. Then there is a porch area directly behind that, then the garage. The garage has the boiler and a sink beside it at the front.
The kitchen area is not well insulated and we have a lot of issues with mould.
We would love to renovate the kitchen with full insulation and new units (keeping our original appliances). We want to knock the back wall of the kitchen joining it with the garage, creating a small utility area with the washing machine where the old WC is now, and a new WC behind that leading in to our garage. The back door is currently in the kitchen area but we would like to move that to the garage or new utility area. We would also probably have to move a radiator.
Can anyone advise us on where we should start with this project, as in do we need to engage an architect first, or a structural engineer etc.
Also I’m aware that it’s so variable but if anyone would have any sort of idea of cost that would be great.
