How to go about renting my home for a 3-4 week short term period

    Hi all,

My family and I are hoping to travel on a 4 week holiday to Australia next summer and in to help fund the trip are thinking if it was possible to rent out our home as a once off short term let for a 3-4 week period.

I know AirBnB is an option but as its our home I was wondering if there was any other (more secure or professional) options available, websites or professional agencies that cater for this type of situation.

Does anyone have any suggestions or even done this before and if so can you share your experiences?

    Thanks all

maybe a house swap type website? Swap with someone in Australia on a location you want to visit to cut accommodation costs.

Thanks. We are looking at the house swap option also but if that does not work out, we were wondering if a trusted short term letting is a possibility.

House swap or pay someone to look after the house would be good for peace of mind.

If you go Airbnb route, be prepared to pay around 50% of the income in tax

Home exchange might be worth a look, Australia is too big to be tied to the 1 area for a month, at least with home exchange you can use what you build up for other holidays.

You could build up a lot of points on a HomeExchange website by letting people stay there while you're away, and then use them on a future trip. I think Air B&B is your best option for what you're suggestion. From what I know you'll be covered by their insurance. But you'll be paying a lot of tax.
