I want to put a shower into an already tiled (floor and walls) room. Am I correct in thinking I can raise the flat shower tray by put a base under it and then marine ply on top covered by the mortar bed and leaving the trap above the existing tiles with the waste coming out above the floor tiles?

I have seen it done before but the guys in the shop are pessimistic.

Strangely I'm arranging to reverse that exact same process at the moment.

Maybe try a few more shops/plumber/toilets/carpenters for Ideas. Would it be possible to get a match for the tiles?

My dad's shower has a 30cm/12" step in to it. He's used it for 10 years, but now he's well into his nineties he's sick of it!

Besides being a hazard, the amount of flex on it has caused problems with.the bottom row of tiles.

All the pipework is boxed in around the room and the shower tray on a platform to give enough height for the drain. It was done like that because the joists were going the wrong way...
