any way of getting Saorview without an external aerial (as the direction is heavily blocked with trees)?

Have you access to the attic? You can use a directional outdoor aerial indoors. A good installer would help and its messy to tune in saorview and point an antenna at the same time. If you share your street or town land we can help with direction and polarisation

There might also be a transmitter in a different direction that you do have line of sight of. If the signal is strong enough the trees may not matter.

As others have said - up into the attic with an aerial and point in the desired direction. You may of the option of a few directions?
