    Hello,

We are refurbishing an old cottage currently and as part of this will be lime plastering the walls to make them breathable on the advice of our architect. However, it has been suggested to us that we should not put up any large paintings/canvasses, etc. onto the inside face of the external walls, as in doing so we could be inadvertedly stopping the wall being breathable, by virtue of the fact that areas of the wall will be covered in paintings. Is this correct? Would paintings and photos 'get wet'? I would hate to have all my walls essentially blank.

Don't up up synthetic wallpaper. But a stretched canvas hung on the wall properly will allow air to circulate around it

A breathable wall should never be damp. Moisture shouldn’t build up any more than the humidity in the house.
It would be evaporating from the external side, not behind the canvas.

Got lime plaster (over hempcrete insulation) here with pictures/mirrors etc. hung on it - no issue whatsoever.
