Journey using two BE services - how to buy ticket?

Say you want to travel by bus from Athlone to Ardee.

190 BE bus from Athlone to Mullingar.

Then change onto 167 BE bus to Ardee.

I tried to buy this ticket online, no success:

    What are my choices?

    (1) Buy two separate tickets in advance online?

    (2) Would Athlone bus station TVM or ticket office sell one through ticket?

    (3) buy one through ticket from bus driver?

There are no through tickets anymore, you have to buy each leg separately.

The cheapest option is to either pay using your LEAP card on each bus, or purchase each leg on the TFI GO app.

Any other option will be more expensive.

Nothing has changed since you asked the exact same question a year ago when I told you to use LEAP or the TFI GO app. That will always be the cheapest option for PSO bus journeys.

Thanks, you have a great memory, I barely recall the earlier query.

I can use the BE Fare Finder feature to look up the fares, great.

Well, it won't display some possible fares, like Athlone to Navan on the 190.

Use “Kennedy Road” for the Navan stop.

    Then it will work.

As I told you last year, the TFI GO app is by far the best place to look as it includes all Bus Éireann PSO routes and all Local Link routes as well.

You can purchase tickets using the app if you don’t want to use a LEAP card.

    Thanks.

No joy using the Fare Finder to get fares from Athlone to Navan (Kennedy road)

I tried the TFI Journey Planner, no fares data:

I will have a look at the TFI app on mobile phone later.

I have a Leap card and will be using it.

I told you to type “Kennedy Road”. Nothing else. Don’t bother with the Navan.

Any stop loaded in the database will come up as a prompt once you start typing it. If it doesn’t before you hit “enter” then it won’t work.

Use the timetable to check stop names if the obvious doesn’t work.

    That works, thank you.

(Surely we want a website that works for people who don't have that insider/local knowledge?)
