A family who is themselves living on rent in a house have given me and another lady 2 rooms on rent. They take rents from us on CASH. Husband works for a delivery company as a delivery driver and i believe is claiming social help for his kids as well.

If the couple have given rooms to us, should our names be on the lease as well? They are taking rents frim we do not know if the landlord knows about it.

The wife is wierd cant handle kids and house. Expects me to clean the house everday etc etc. Charging me big amounts of bills i sharing. Three times had bad convo with wife (husband doesnt utter a word).

Threatening me to call GARDA if i do not leave house in 2-3 days.

Any suggestions? They can send me out straight and i cant so anything abt it?

Thanks is someone can provide an advise. No bills are on my name and neither any rent or lease docs.

    Thanks

should your names be in the lease? Depends how long you’ve been living there. If you’ve been paying cash, it’d be difficult to demonstrate the duration of your residency.

Can they kick you out? Yes. You’re a licensee, not a tenant. Unless you’ve been there long enough to have your name added to the lease.

Of course, the original lease likely had a ‘no subletting’ clause, which would cause all sorts of extra hassle if the landlord decided to terminate based on breach of lease conditions.

If the people you are paying rent to are taking more from you and the other lady in rent and bills than is allowed under the rent a room scheme, they will be liable to pay tax on the whole amount. The 2024 limit is €14000. A penny above this makes the whole amount liable for tax. Either way, they should be making a return every year.

I am living in the house since past 5 mnths and the lady moved 1 month.

That couple is threatening me to throw my stuff out straight or call garda. They expect to do household which i do!..bcoz i am free and searching for a job frm past 2 mnths. It is the wife on the forward always amd husband mouth is on knots. Rent taking 400 on cash, house expenses on cash. 4 ppl came to share the house before and in my presence, all left in next couple of days.
