From the cast and minds of Lower Decks..

    Information is still very vague

Slight worry is that Kurtzman will co-write. That man is like the opposite of Midas.

"The half-hour series does not yet have a title or format, but Newsome and Simien will write the show with Star Trek overseer Alex Kurtzman. Details were scant about the series at the panel, other than that it will be set at some point in the 25th century—a relatively unexplored period of Star Trek, with only Picard among the shows set during the early years of the 2400s, and that the series will follow a cast of Federation outsiders, serving customers on a resort world, who discover that their daily exploits are actually being recorded and broadcast to the entire quadrant."

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Hmm, I'm not going to immediately write it off….with Newsome there there's hope for something decent. With Kurtzman there though, ouch, much higher probability of it crapping the bed on day 1. I'll be very cautiously hopeful for this one…

Was Kurtzman in control over Lower Decks? The craven cynic in me thinks Kurtzman was bitter about McMahan's success with Lower Decks, had it canceled and wanted to have his own comedy show.

Tawny Newsome is literally the only thing that turns my head on this project so far.

Tawny Newsome was a voice actor on Lower Decks. Did she have anything to do with the writing? Is Mike McMahen involved here at all?

there’s room for comedy in Star Trek but nothing here that I’d be getting excited about so far. Particularly after having seen the Section 31 trailer, and that the timeline setting being apparently closer to Picard series than Lower Decks.

I wonder if it's something like a Risa setup, with an opportunistic Ferengi exploiting things for profit. Could be fun, and while there's room for comedy in Star Trek, it needs to be mindful of any slapstick carry on....its a fine line.

Sounds like more bottom of the barrel stuff. I like Newsome as a voice actor on Lower Decks and that show does work from a comedy perspective while still being within the general boundaries of what you'd expect.

But this sounds like some sort of rip of The Truman Show which itself wasn't actually a comedy.
