    Hi All,

Id Apricate some answers, I am building a Garden Room, I have Electricians arranged to come and view the job but I cant get anyone to view the job for another 5 weeks and i could do with getting it finished in the next few weeks. I seen in the uk guys take the live Neutral and earth from the Consumer Unit to the Light Switch, then run from the switch to the Lighting Circuit joining the Neutral and Earth and switching the Live. I though this is how it was always done. a mate who was a spark but has changed careers has offered to do the work the week after next, but said that he would run from the CU to the first light interrupt the live wire before the light then take the live back to the Light switch via 2 wires to turn on and off the circuit. I know its basically the same but is it ok to do it how he is offering to do it or what is the Industry Standard in Ireland?

    Apricate all input

There's a few ways domestic lighting is wired . In com/industrial there's even more .

You're last method sounds like 3-plate

Anyway this doesn't sound like minor works so you'll need a REC

3-plate is the least desirable method for wiring domestic lighting as it leaves a feed at light when switch is off

Not an issue in a com/ind environmental where sparks are doing all the work

Domestic wiring is mostly idiot proofed to protect homeowners and non sparks may be doing minor works and balls it up

DP main isolation, rcbo lighting etc to mitigate risk
