The lack of synergies with the amalgamation of Waterford City and County

I always knew that the ex City Manager as a West Waterford man would never make the obvious move and close and sell off the Very large civic building in Dungarvan as he has to live there.

A big test for the new Manager, it is completely pointless having this extremely expensive double overhead and paying traveling time to a lot of highly paid staff to commute weekly.

Whatever about the poor decision foisted on us by Fine Gael and Phil Hogan we have to live with it, but we should surely reap the obvious upside of the savings rather than the current status quo?

The old county council had a tiny rate base and was among the most supported local authorities (from central funds) in the state. Any excess of resources that Waterford Corporation had for the city were swallowed in the amalgamation.

All part of Big Phil’s plan and Fine Gael in general. No need for two offices and all the allowances that go between them all traveling for meetings etc!

I’d say Covid took care of a lot of the excess ‘travel and subsistence’ that council folk used to cream off….. surely the new manager now has the chance now to sort the bi-location issue out…?
