    Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me out, I will have a gap of 2 weeks between jobs in September (Contract ends new job starts 2 weeks after) and I'm not going to sign on as I'm not a jobseeker, can I ask the Community Welfare Officer for financial assistance seeing as I'll go 2 weeks without pay?

    Cheers

You can ask but most likely won't receive anything if you haven't made an unemployment claim and are awaiting a decision.

Cheers, I just don't see the point in signing on tbh, I'll give them a call ahead of time and see what they say 👍️

I’m not sure the process for supplementary welfare allowance is simpler tbh. The means test for it is stricter for a start. If you have enough stamps you don’t need to be means tested for Jobseekers benefit so filling the form for it should be more straightforward. If you are feeling lazy about form filling you are not going to be successful in cutting down the work by applying for SWA. It’s also important that you don’t have a break in your social insurance contributions.

It's not that I'm lazy about forms it's the fact I'm not a jobseeker.

If you lost your job as opposed to leaving it, I'd sign on for JSB assuming you've enough stamps paid, it can be done online, takes 15 minutes, you'll at least maintain continuity with regards to PRSI Stamps. You can then close claim when you've started your new job.

Community welfare officer won't be of assistance in this case.

Will the fact I have a job lined up already no disqualify me from JSB?

No, that's not a problem. If you meet the rest of the criteria, go and sign on.

No, if you are unemployed, even for a short time, you are entitled to apply as long as you didn't leave the job voluntarily, in that case you'll be penalised. Continuity with stamps is important however.

Just a lil update on this, 3 weeks since I tried to claim, still nothing, in that time they have told me revenue have no record of me working in 2024 (odd since I've paid taxes) requested a final payslip then a letter stating my start and finish date, taking ages to reply to emails only to send a letter stating revenue have told them I'm working now (same guys who didn't know I was working before 😂) to emailing asking my start date and do I wanna continue my claim.....I really should have just not claimed as I knew it would be awkward.
