Just after the post covid reopenings, my grandmother befriended an young African Deacon through prayer meetings at the church, he since returned home but last week "his brother" got in contact with her to say that he is in hospital with phnamunia and needs her prayers and any help with medical bills. I wonder is he doing a DJ Carey?

Lots of prayers may help but I’d be reluctant to send money. May be genuine but…

If she is truly insistent on sending money get her to pay any bills directly to the hospital.

That way you can verify the details before anything is sent.

That's probably the laziest scam I've ever heard of. Tell your grandmother to wish him all the best and leave it at that. He gets an F for effort.

I don't know but should there be some air in that bag, it looks completely flat.

Also funny coincidence on the timing, at a church with plenty of elderly people looking to do good deeds!

Where is home, another country? Is he up for a visit of telephone call?

Ask the “Deacon” to tell your grandmother the name of the hospital - then find the number of the hospital independently and phone them/contact them directly and explain the situation. Include the photo in correspondence - I’m sure they’ll only be delighted to help confirm especially if there’s issues of payment of costs- in fact while she’s at it she can confirm if costs actually exist for patients at that hospital - prepare to be surprised

He no more has pneumonia than my arse! Oxygen mask on crooked and no sign of an IV or monitors, tell your grandmother to ignore these chancers.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Guy is smiling/smirking under the mask!

I hope you convince your grandmother it's a scam and not to engage further. She was groomed and now they are trying to extract as much money as they can. There will be further requests for more funds.

where are the EKG pads on his chest? With a critically ill person you have them. When I had pneumonia I had them for first day until stabilised.

    Don't you know it's 100euro per pad!

next photo will come with first pad attached, a nice thank you note and a plea for more pads...😁

Get their "church" to pay the bills. Not Granny.

The deacon should have added the Nokia Charger to the nose. Amateur.
