Best battery performance

    Hi,

Looking at second hand phones. Budget between 400 and 500.

Big thing for me is the battery performance. How long it takes to full charge? And how long that will last?

Looking at specs and reviews it looks like some of the Chinese companies e.g. Xiaomi are miles ahead of Samsung and Google.

Is this because they are just leading or is there some trade off here. For example some of the Chinese brands come with 120w chargers so wondering are they consuming more power in total whereas the Google and Samsung ones are lower power, longer to take to charge but overall consume less power to charge. So more efficient by going slower

    Any info appreciated

Few things to keep in mind: The charging speed is only that, how quick it will top up the battery. Not the rate in which it will use battery power. Your own usage, apps, settings like screen brightness, screen on time will determine how long a battery will last. Assuming one model would be more efficient by charging slower is not accurate.

For that budget 400/500 euro why not buy a new phone mid range. At least you don't have to worry about battery degraded and you get longer support for software and warranty

    Thanks, @GIMP

I was looking at the Xiaomi remi which seem really fast at charging but problem is you get a load of bloatware and ads.

Currently have a poco x3 and the ads and stability reck my head. Worried the other Xiaomi redmi versions will be as bad. Know anything?

If you go down the road of a Xiaomi or Poco (Xiaomi sub brand), there is super value for money. There is ways to debloat it comes loaded with crapware.

    I've a Poco X5 pro

I have a Xaiomi the past 3 year, all bloatwear I deleted and I get zero adverts. You can switch off advertising options within the settings, just check YouTube for guidance which i did

I 2nd the Xiaomi option. Between the RedMi & Poco subbrands in particular they offer really decent value.

I'm currently using a Poco F5 and previous handsets have been Xiaomi since 2017 or so. I would caveat my own recommendation with the fact that I always use the xiaomi.eu rom. It nixes the bloatware.

At the price your looking at, I'd honestly look at a new Xiaomi/RedMi, Poco or oppo than a 2yr old 2nd hand flagship.

Also on your battery charge query, and the 120w charging. Think of your battery like a 1ltr jug and the charger output as water pressure. A higher water pressure will fill the jug faster, but no matter how fast it fills it, it still only holds 1ltr. Fast charging is a handy means of refilling your jug quickly. It really doesn't have much effect on overall power usage.

Sorry didn't explain myself well there.

Say, the batteries have both the same power.

Redmi charges at 120 watt and takes 25 min. Samsung is 25 watt and takes 100 min. That means the cost or co2 impact to charge, i.e. total power is the same.

I think the reason why the Remi's are much faster is because they use LiPo whereas Samsung and Google use Lith.

This means you get longer life from high spec google or Samsung.

    So, that's the trade off.
