    Hey,

Just wanting to get some ideas, as thinking Austria this season instead of the usual 3 Valleys in France.

    A few questions:

The package holidays (Top Flight, Crystal Ski) have Aer Lingus flight times to/from Salzburg, yet there are none on Aer Lingus. Are these solely for package holidays, or do Aer Lingus make these available at some stage?

Flights to Munich look good with Aer Lingus and then you're not tied to Sat to Sat or whatever. So this might be a better option.

Train to Worgl and then train on to Soll, Kirchberg, Kitzbuehel, St. Johann, Zell am See seems fairly doable and not crazy prices or times.

Anyone got any recommendations for decent shared transfers?

Flights are charter flights booked through Top flight etc. Booking flights only through the package operator would be an option.

I have done Munich flights before and it's fine for short breaks but Deutsche Bahn are a bit meh, delays, zero respect for reserved seats etc. Found it a lot easier to fly Cork Amsterdam Innsbruck but depends where you're flying from. OBB is a much better train operator.

Have looked at transfers before but they never made financial sense compared to getting the train.

A very expensive option. Looked into doing this with Crystal around 7 or 8 years ago and they were looking for around €350 for flight only. Pretty much double what a return flight to Munich would've cost at the time

You should look for flights using the Google flight app…..it throws up lots of options but for airports like Salzburg and Innsbruck which are the main ones for Austria 🇦🇹 there won’t be any direct flights you will get options like Dublin to Amsterdam/london/paris and then Salzburg/Innsbruk….. some will have very short stop over times and some will have very long ones but with ‘google flights’ you can filter and choose which one and it’s take the ‘labour’ out of it😃

We're going to fly to Munich with EI and stay the night in a hotel and then get a direct EuroCity train the next morning to the resort (Schladming) It was much cheaper then FR to Salzburg incl the hotel and train etc. We have done this a few times before and prefer it, we're bringing kids so it seems a bit more relaxed just hopping on a train to the final destination. Anywhere in Austria is more or less accessible by train (maybe a short taxi/bus at the end) and we often fly to/from Vienna for half nothing and hop on the train. It can be a long enough journey, but we enjoy the experience.

Car hire is cheap in Germany

    I have done both.

Flight to Munich, then train to Worgl, followed by taxi to Niederau. Easy and inexpensive using Bayern ticket.

I have also flown to Salzburg and booked return taxi from Salzburg airport to Westendorf. That was so fast that we go to resort in time to get ski equipment, ski pass and 2 hours skiing in that day The taxi was about 400e return, this was 2920.

Sakzburg faster, comfortable and stress free. Munich cheaper but very doable.

This yyear it's Munich + car hire to SkiWelt

    No

Aer Lingus to Munich, Bahn.de to Kufstein & taxi to Soll 😎 Or Tirol Taxi for shared transfer from Munich to wherever you're going, but it's pricey.

Ya last 3 years have gone munich and train to kufstein and jump in a taxi 20/25 mins to ellmau. Really good ski area (skiwelt) we stayed in fab apartment in village owned by the sport hotel.

You could also fly to Salzburg and go to saalbach my favourite so far resort but prob be expensive.

We are off to st anton this Nye flying into Zurich with aerlingus and train down to village.

You won't get much skiing done by the time you hire equipment and get sorted , you might have 3 hrs if you were super organised and everything is in time. The last day you could ski until 1

Ellmau is lovely nice restaurants. Apre at the bottom of the bergbahnen station if you want. Lovely spot just before the end of the last slope. Jausenstation Hausleitenstubn for a bit of food and drinks very popular.

If you wants stick up your dates and I'll have a look at accommodation for you.

Cheapest place would be the alpking hostel double room shared bathroom right in the village. Very good reviews on Google maps and right beside the bus stop for skiing. 336 euro for 1 or 388 euro for 2 with breakfast

Wow, thanks for the research, it's 2 of us. I'll give it a look now. Soll is 800 for same....

Ya go for it it looks perfect and can't get better location. Ski bus outside door and be a the hartkaiser gondola in a few mins. You can rent gear at the intersport at the hartkaiser and hire a locker its very handy.
