Bath Installation

    Hello All,

I'm about to install a bath.

Tis 1500mm, the space for it is about 1580.

Ive not done this before and that space seems awkward!

Gaps are bit big to seal with silicon and small to tile or something (& I really don't wanna tile)

Anyone know how I go about it?

The space is already fully tiled! Which I now realise is not normal (should tile down to the baths edge).

Also the front panel will have to span the full length going past either end of the bath!!

This is going to look bad, not sure how to do the piece above the panel where there's no bath.

    Tips?

And finally the floors unevenness causes any water to pool under the bath, so I'm gonna have to seal properly all around the front panel including underneath the batton timber at bottom of front panel.

    Tips?

Any general opinions about this job would be greatly welcome...

    Cheers.

Sounds like a job for a professional if your so unsure about everything or maybe get the correct size bath so you don't have to worry about all the gaps?

Photos might help here but I'm kinda-thinking that 8cm's is a little bit too large for a clean finish alright. Is the bath 8cm smaller than the previous?

    Cheers,

Unfortunately baths only seem to come in 1500 or 1700. Not a hope of getting 1580…

No it's a newly created space. I don't even have the bath yet so pics not possible. I just need to figure out what way I'm going to do the panel before U can buy it.

Not sure if possible to get 1700 panel and trim back...

    So, got the bath

As can be seen, there's a 20mm gap on one side.

Im gonna sit on buttons and silicon.

The problem is how to fill the 20mm gap??

And the bit just above where the front panel runs past the bath??

    Any ideas?

Can you not move bath so there's a 10mm gap each side, then insert the steel version of tile strip it could be slotted in tight with a rubber mallet each side and a some white silicone to finish it neatly. Just a suggestion

I'm not an expert, but look at my pics above.

To me, this seems an easy enough problem to resolve. Build up from the bottom of the bath edge (fill it in with the appropriate material) to the correct height and then tile with 20mm strips or a single 20mm strip if long enough. In fact, it is possible, you will just need to waste most of an entire long tile as evidenced by the length of the wall tile next to it.

    Is this not possible?

As for the front panel, you will notice that I had the same issue. The lip or the bit of the wall jutting out is still there. But it just "works". In my case, the tiles are placed under and behind the lip of the bath so that it simply blends in.

In regard to your bath panel, you can get a standard size Isocore bath panel (1700mm) and cut it down to the required size. It's solid and made of a composite material so water won't affect it. You can also get 25mm bath seal strips, might take a little bit of experimenting to get right but it would do the trick.
