India Sim card

Hi all,

I'm visiting India, and my Irish prepaid SIM doesn't work there.

Is there an alternative SIM or eSIM that I could use?

I'm using a Samsung S24U.

Vodafone here have a plan that gives you calls and texts home and a tiny amount of data for five euro a day. For data get yourself an Indian SIM card in Indira Gandhi airport before exiting. They have a special desk for tourists to buy them easily here, outside of the airport to my understanding it will be way more difficult. It's very good value.

I'm not sure if someone has a different idea but this is what I did for my trip three years ago.

Find a local who can help you to buy a sim card from a phone shop. I think they need to use their ID to get it.

No just data, you can use FaceTime audio for calls or WhatsApp etc

GoMoWorld is really just a wrapper on Eir so it would be quite reliable it also offers 5G and Airalo is 4G only.

Another benefit of Gomo is you’ll have an Irish IP address so websites etc which show Irish versions.

I have downloaded the GoMoWorld app and registered. Does the 7 day period start when you purchase data pack or when you arrive in India?

I’m not sure about GoMo but with Airalo it’s when you activate the SIM on arrival

The Mobimatter App has all the esim options available for a given destination in one place. It's available on Android and iOS. It has some cheaper options than the other eSims mentioned here

I will check it out now.

So far GoMoWorld is cheapest. Its 2GB for €4.

Upon arrival I have a local sim card sorted. So just need data pack to use WhatsApp call/text for the first few hours.
