CPD-Management Choosing for Staff?

    Hi all,

Our school management have decided to give us a list of ten courses they want us to choose from for 4 hours of our CPD. Any courses we want to do to make up those four hours must be approved by management in advance or they have told us that they won't count. Is this really the procedure? This has only been an issue in our school in the last year, never before. Could anyone point me towards the circular or union guidelines on CPD?

As far as I'm aware that was always the case. The course had to be approved if you wanted it counted for CP. But you can always do your own CPD anyway.

Fortunately our school treats us like professionals. Do your own courses, whatever you want, then send a record to your subject department head (they never chase it up). I did a masters a couple of years ago so I'm really reluctant to be chasing more courses for croke park nonsense.

Your school is being very prescriptive, maybe there is a department inspection coming?
