Deco X50-PoE file transfer issue

    Hi,

I'm having a strange issue with a deco network.

I set up a deco network using 3 deco PoE, purchased a PoE switch so they are all connected with ethernet. I have a ZTE 5G CPE MC801A connected to the main deco unit which acts as a router and then this goes to the ethernet switch to provide internet to all other decos. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08PJPX47D/ref%3Dpe_27063361_487055811_TE_dp_1 and also have a deco PoE outdoor on the network.

My Nvidia Shiled and Laptop are generally connected to the 5Ghz wireless on the Kitchen node. The Hallway node is the main node. When I try to transfer a file from laptop to the shield it'll start off fine, then apruptly stop and I get unexpected netowork error 0x8007003B.

If i go to another room or manually switch laptop to another deco node it will work, so that both items aren't on the same decco.

I moved both devices to the office, tried again but got the same error.

As i crimped my own cable for the network i thought that could be the fault so i Purchased pre crimped cable and replaced them all!

I'm onto Deco support, who gave me beta firmware to upgrade to but that didn't solve it. Still works when I connect laptop to a different node.

The fact that it works when on different nodes would make me think the switch isn't the issue. I have been meaning to try connecting to a node using a wired connection but i've mislaid my USB-C mini hub with ethernet connection.

Anybody ever seen something like this? It's quite a specific issue so perhaps not.

I have linux on the laptop but not much expierence in it in case there's any tools there. My untrained eye doesn't see anything obvious in the deco log.

    Any tips appreciated!

    Update:

    Some ping stats from laptop:

    Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
    Packets: Sent = 200, Received = 200, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 1857ms, Average = 60ms

Quite inconsistent at times to the nvidia shield:

    Ping statistics for 192.168.68.110:
    Packets: Sent = 200, Received = 199, Lost = 1 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 832ms, Average = 26ms

It was genearlly quite close to the minimum for each but a few big ones skewed the average on both, and one timed out to the shield.

Try eliminate shield . If can test laptop with another device

I'll map a network drive from one laptop to another overthe weekend. I cna also plug the shiled in via ethernet to the node as i can't find the laptop docking station, only thoght of that now. I've schedlued a remote session for next Thursday week with deco also. They are Hong Kong based so awkard enough with work.

    Also test if avail:

transfer behavior between wired devices, to eliminate WiFi

disable antivirus temporary while transferring - some AV by default could be set to scan network/mapped drives - this might have impact.

yeah i'll wire things up over weekend. Its so odd that the wifi works as long as not connected to the same node. So I'll try one wifi one wired to same node and if that doesn't work two wired to same node.

So definetly works when I use ethernet cable to connect laptop and wifi for shield.

I stuggled with windows sharing folders to copy anything, due to permissions issues….I spent a fair bit of time but got nowhere so that's inconcolusive. I was followig online guides and doing what they said but all i was getting was empty folders even though i had allowed guest access and access for everybody. I was able to copy from laptop to retro pie, although at low speeds of about 10mb/s so that is a bit confusing.

I have noticed something else though, i set up home assistant to minotor my internet connection, connected to the switch which is connected to main deco. As you can see it cuts out.

I set up a second wifi network using my old decos and my wife was using that when working from home, she had no outage during the times when the ping wasn't working. I'll connect both laptop and shield to this nework this evening and confirm that the files copy.

I have a remote session set up for August 1st with deco as that's the next time I'll be at home during Hong Kong office hours.

MB/s vs Mbps x8 times difference i believe you aware of, so it was ~84Mbps - could it be due to drive limitation or link to one of devices is limited to 100Mbps ? Can you check link speed per device?

Sharing among Win devices - unless your devices are members of one workgroup… Set local user(just for that purpose) per device you intend to share folder on, use credentials as DeviceName\UserName where that user has required permissions on that folder. IP could be used instead FQDN(DeviceName), providing device is on static IP.

Ping to 8.8… is your test for connection OUT, does not necessary indicate anything about connection to your internal devices shares. Access to your shares locally does not/should not require internet connection.

Yeah i have an SSD connected to the pi so not sure what speed limitation was but not a big deal really.

THe fact that the internet is going down a few times a day leads me to believe the decos are faulty though as the older decoes don't disconnect. I connected the shiled and my laptop to the old deco wifi and it transferred a file without issue.

I was able to copy a file from my laptop to my phone over the new network though. I can only do that with the shield when connected to a different node or if laptop is on LAN. So it's all very strange.

    SSD over USB connection?
Interested how deco support will explain transfer issue once connected on same node, let us know how it goes. They cant ground you on "third party device/switch" in this case if you can prove its on same node.
BTW, can you replicate issue if all other nodes are shutdown?

Yeah ssd over usb I think, I got a little Nintendo case and you put the SSD in like a game in a little cover.... Can't remember how it connected!

I'll try that next.... Had to prioritise getting a backup network going as the internet cutting out was messing a few priority things... So I think I've my EV charger fixed now. I did disconnect the outdoor x50 yesterday and left it out but didn't fix the file transfer or stability issue.

I'll try to get some time this weekend, call with deco and logging booked in for the 1st August, but I'm unsure I can work from home that day so might have to postpone. Pity I can't just send them my log

Also having issues with robot lawnmower, have to prioritise that tomorrow evening) boundary wire not broken but signal not strong enough so having to pull it all up on the section I've narrowed it down to...... It's the bigger section of the two)tech is good when it all works ..... You need a lot of patience when it doesn't :-D just in case you are wondering why progress is so slow!
