My daughter has a samsung tab a8 and its painfully slow, i have tried everything to speed it up but it pales compared to my other daughters 5 year old ipad.

Are there any reasonably priced android tablets that are reasonably quick (im just talking about general navigation, opening a few apps, nothing bleeding edge)

Lenovo are the main player in that price range IMO. Their M10 & M11 ranges have quite a few options and are decent value. There's also RedMi Pad (Xiaomi miPad too but pricier) but the advice I'd offer there is make sure you buy the "global" version.

Only one to avoid currently is Huawei as they are on the sanctions list, so no built in Google play store access. There are ways around that but if you want stress free grab & go? Avoid Huawei.

Do not under any circumstances buy the Lenovo M10 Plus 3rd gen.

I'm on my second one after only 18 months.

The first one just refused to switch on after having it 5 days, and it couldn't be repaired.

The new one they replaced it with has this dreaded screen freeze that unfortunately I have to live with. You can use it away, then out of the blue, the screen locks, and you can't type or use the screen,,yet anything you have on the screen, videos,YouTube, etc, keep playing away fine. You have to put it into standby, and unlock the screen, then it's ok for another while.

Being honest, so close many times to just hopping it off the ground. Living with this issue over a year.

Having said this, I can't vouch for the M11....

I don't really think that there is a decent "fast cheap" android tablet available although the new Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 series seems to have better specs than the A8 so there may be an improvement in speed.

I did have the A8 too and felt that it was sluggish after upgrading to OneUI 6 even after a factory rest. I have being contemplating the A9+ as a replacement but not sure I really need it as I have a S7 FE which does me fine

We have both Redmi Pads and Oppo Pad Air at home, and both are decent tablets for what I paid for them.
