Hi folks about two months ago i ordered a passport book got it fairly quick i decided two months later to order a passport card too,

I noticed the numbers on both are different, so what i want to know is if i booked a flight using the passport book can i use the card too to check in or show at airport or must it be the original book number that i used thats All thanks ?

The numbers will always be different.

No problem booking with one and using the other.

I booked a few years back and checked in outbound using the card number, then when abroad discovered that you can't check in online with Aer Lingus using the card (nice of them to tell you that in advance!) so used the book number to check in as I knew it off by heart, and then used the card in the airport. No problem at all.

Card is only for use within the EU just in case you didn't realise (and I presume it works for the UK as well but I'm not 100% sure on that)

No problem swapping them over. Forgot my passport once and used the card instead.

    Person is mis-informed.

I have travelled extensively throughout Europe with both Ryanair and Aer Lingus, and have only used the passport card.

Can't remember the last time I took the book with me.

I've flown umpteen times with Ryanair with only the passport card, they absolutely do accept it.

As do Aer Lingus. You just can't check in online with a passport card with Aer a Lingus, or at least you couldn't up till a year or two ago, I'm not sure if they've got their act together since I last tried it.

The passport card still doens't work for Aer Lingus online check-in but you can check-in online with your passport book and travel with the card. No one is comparing the numbers.

Yes, that's what I did when I got caught abroad with only the card with me. I had a really tight connection so needed to check in online for the second flight home - I couldn't believe it when I finally managed to get talking to a human and they said "oh no, you can't use a card to check in online" like it was the most obvious thing in the world. The only thing I could do was use my passport book number, which I knew, and I was sure all hell would break loose when I used the card in the airport- but no problem at all.

How does that work on the return trip when you rack up to Passport Control at Dublin ?

No issues ever using my passport card with Aer Lingus, Ryanair or other European airlines. I've checked in on the Aer Lingus website using my book and ended up travelling on the card. Have done the same with Ryanair. The gate staff just want to see a valid travel document.
