    It comes free with a new computer, what version of windows do you have?

    I have Windows 7 I missed out on the free windows 10 update. I want to upgrade the PC I have instead of buying a new one

    Regardless what you intend to try, make sure you have record of your current key and i recommend to have backup, clone entire drive if you can.
    Back then, up to 2019-2020 i had different experience, some OEM computers would activate after upgrade automatically, some required to enter key manually. "Burned" few PC's.
    Even last month, after fresh install of Win11 just to wipe bloatware, at least two lenovo laptops failed to activate.

    You have a license to install Windows 10 and are upgrading this PC from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
    You need to reinstall Windows 10 on a PC you’ve already successfully activated Windows 10.
