As you can see from the photo, I’ve a broken inter locking tile. I have a replacement tile, but not sure how to remove the broken tile.

The tile above the broken one doesn’t have anywhere to go, and there’s not much room under the broken tile either, as the skylight is in the way! Any help appreciated

This video looks like it would at the very least be a temporary fix, and if done carefully and correctly could last years. It would allow you to repair the tile without disturbing any surrounding tiles.

Thanks a million, that could be an option alright, should I not be able to replace the tile!

The top tile would be nailed down and possibly since the window was put in the broken one nailed in to. So to remove the top one you'd have to take of the ridge tile. Then remove the top one and replace the broken one and then cement and pin the ridle tiles above them. Not a big job just one to take your time and and pick your day weather wise if we ever get a dry day. Be careful as always.

Thanks a million for that - makes sense….I had roofer look at it, but was going to charge quite a bit and seems like a small job!

Hi, you can try that repair method - it might work but I find that those silicone products don't last too long due to the temperature and moisture here. If you do do it, use a UV stable and also a non-solvent based good quality exterior rated product. "Low modulus neutral cure silicone" is the one to look for.

Other than that you would have to break the bed of the ridge tiles to take out that broken one and then re-lay them with a mortar mix - it's not a difficult job, but it's a bit of a pain - especially if you end up breaking a ridge-tile in the process.

Super thanks a mill for that - Im slow to repair due to to the changeable weather here, and Ive already got my hands on a replacement tile…

I just didnt realise that the ridge tile might need to come out

No problem. When your taking off the ridge tile break out the pinning each side first then gently spend some time. Tapping each side with a dead blow hammer or mallet and if you havnt either some timber and a hammer to shock the old mortar and try get the ridge tile out without breaking it.

Yes, that's it. The bedding on those ridge-tiles tends to be crap anyway.
