Planted a hornbeam hedge last November with 1 year old bare root plants

The aim is just to have a tall narrow green screen to block off the greyness of the wall, don't want a thick bushy hedge, what's the best approach to cutting this? Shorten any lateral branches coming out away from the wall? Haven't a clue re this so appreciate any thoughts..

Yeah cut anything coming away from the wall to depth you want. Always a good idea to trim the leading shoots down by about half to help thicken the plant out a bit

First thing I'd do is take 18ins to 2ft off the top of them all. A light trim of side branches after that.
