Fault in wall?

Plugged in hoover, there was a spark and some smoke and this little black mark appeared on the wall. Hoover didn't work (had been working in other room), but none of the other appliances or lights seemed affected. On the other side of this wall is the shower/bath (immersion heated, not electric), which is built into the wall as opposed to free-standing. House from the 70s, original bathroom tiles. I am guessing some water damage is responsible, but I'm pretty clueless in these matters and very open to more informed opinions.

Will phone an electrician in the morning. Of immediate interest - reasonable to plug things in in the opposite downstairs corner of the house? Okay to have a shower? (water already heated, immersion turned off now, guessing it may be unusable for a while)? Any other thoughts/advice welcome.
