Hey folks, trying to get a estimated value of my 07 MX5 1.8 with a goosed engine. Considering selling in the next few weeks.

-Rattle from engine due to oil starvation but drives ok for now. 3/4 pistons have oil on top - looks like piston rings
are gone. Drinks oil - max to min in about 500km. Have report/photos. Thermostat sticking open likely also.
    - Mazda specialist doesnt think block is damaged but hard to be sure. He suspects rattle from lifters or timing chain area.
-NCT'ed til Dec 26th, 2024, taxed til October.
    -176,000km
-Repair likely to be at least 3K.

    Thanks

I’d be happy with anything over €1k if I’m honest

Why would anyone pay 1k for that?

DIY mechanic may want it as a project or track day car conversion. The rest of the car is in good condition.

Seems a car you want a good oily mechanic to repair, not main dealer, not a mazda specialist.

It's a NA simple enough engine, I've a number of a bloke you could try, older bloke. Quick Fit wanted 850 to do NCT work this guy did for 500.

A few others have used him when main dealers wanted mad money. PM me if you want his number. He's in south Dublin.

Cheers gsi. I brought it to a mazda main dealer as I couldnt get a recommendation for a indy mazda specialist. I thought they might have a more trained ear for the rattle vs a regular mechanic.

Tbh, theres a bit of pressure to have a 2nd good 4 seater car with the kids growing up so im resigned to move it on. Its a busy house here so I dont think I could face the stress of it dragging out with unforeseen issues also.

it must be hard to get a replacment NC engine cause the all seem to go pop sooner or later. Where the NA/NB can be bounced off the limiter for years on end.

That would make a perfect EV conversion. Seeing that the engine is already fooked.
