this is something that happens most years with sucks and I pass little remarks.

But I noticed yesterday a wee AAx heifer with an enlarged quarter. Haven’t seen any sucking in this group but can’t be sure.

She’s not sore or kicking at it and feeding well and in great form.

Is this a watch and see or what would you do ??

If you spot the animal doing it, you can get one of those spike things for their nose.

    it’s slowly receding

Haven’t seen any sucking in this group so it may not be caused by that.

Sucking usually doesn’t bother me, we’ve another batch and few sucking in it and I just leave them to it.

I don't like calves suckling one another as it can be a habit that causes issues down the road and with weaker/smaller calves.

I would put spray some Stockholm tar or in a pinch some put some dung on.

Seen a calf stifle joint being poped out from calves suckling / pucking her.
