I sowed some red robin hedging earlier in the year and it took off with a spurt however its now lost it gloss and looks lighter in colour and looks a bit drained for want of a better explanation. Leaves are gone a paler green and paler red. Its in full sun and fairly sure got enough water/rain.

Any advice as to what it needs?

I had two plants left over and poped them into pots and they have kept the bright vibrant look!

What makes Red Robin red is the young growth. As these leaves age they revert to green . The way to keep them red is regular cutting. The new leaves that emerge after the cut will be bright red.

Check new growth tips for greenfly .If there you can hose and remove with fingers and /or spray with soap solution .A prune may help too.Dont worry these things are bomb proof and it will glow again!

    Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Would you be concerned that the ones in the pots look healthier and haven't faded?

No .If really concerned about the big ones can give them a hard prune back but will have to wait a good few months for red growth in that case ( but may have to anyway ) Are you certain it’s getting plenty of water to roots ? They’re thirsty and appearances can be deceptive .Maybe try stick a bamboo or something down into Soil to test for water?
