New lawn questions

Hi folks,

We seeded a brand new lawn about 4 weeks ago. I am planning on giving it its first cut as soon when it drys a bit more, but I have a few questions before I do that:

1. There are a few patchy bits and other areas where the grass is still fairly young. Can I mow over those? Or just do the longer areas?
2. I have some dock leaves in the lawn (along with other weeds). Should I remove these before mowing?
3. When should I start to overseed the patchy areas? Should I see how much the regular mowing helps fill things out and maybe do it in September?

Just mow it on the highest setting for now, it will keep filling in. The docks won't survive being regularly cut so no need to remove.

Docks won't be killed off by cutting. The tap root will survive. They need to be either dug out or sprayed with a lawn weed killer.

That's what I was thinking. Other advice I got was to cut the dock at the stem and then use a paint brush to carefully apply Dicophar onto the wound. I did that 2 days ago and it's seemed to have worked a treat.

Would you have any advice on how to deal with the patchy areas?

The root will eventually become exhausted from trying to regrow, they are not lawn weeds.

They are a weed of Pastures though, and grazing doesn't eliminate them.

Give it a high cut. If you're unhappy with bare areas, loosen the soil a bit, throw some seed on it, firm it and water well.

Thanks, is it a good idea to aerate with a pitchfork and then throw seeds down?
