The 3 men were total scumbags and they could have stopped and given up at any time NOBODY made them drive down the N7 facing into traffic.

Their funerals proved all their relatives and friends were total scumbags.

I feel very sorry for the Garda here they are being thrown under the bus.

    Shocking.

And they wonder why no one wants to join the Guards.

Torch and screwdriver among gifts at funeral of N7 crash victim Dean Maguire

They spoke of the "mad memories" they had with the deceased, who they repeatedly described as a "legend" and devoted father to his two children, as well as a devoted husband to his wife.

A number of people finished their tributes saying "up Foxrock" while one female relative told the mourners: "Sorry for the language father, rest in peace ya f***ing legend".

    quotes from the Irish Independent.

I don't know how to post the link but the priest said the behaviour in the church was shocking.

Am I correct in thinking that the garda is in trouble for driving the wrong way on a dual carriageway (which goes against garda driving rules) and it has nothing really to do with some dead scum?

I don't THINK you are correct however I am open to correction.

The families of these 3 kicked up a stink I THINK this is the motivation behind sending this poor man to trial.

No, you're not in that it's a bit more nuanced than the charge implies.

This matter is also before the courts and can't be discussed here.

Did not realise we are not to discuss things going before the courts if I broke a rule I apologise.

I think is very wrong that this Garda is going before the Court however.

…alleges he drove westwards on the eastwards auxiliary lane between Rathcoole and Citywest in a reckless manner, which posed a substantial risk of death or serious injury to a member of the public."

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no auxiliary lane on the N7 going East from Rathcoole to Citywest.

Absolutely disgusted by this. The behaviour at the funeral was disgraceful. The guard should be given a medal imo,

Mod - Charges have been filed, this is now before the courts.

The thread will be reopened after legal proceedings have concluded.
