What do people think of the new line-up?

I must admit I was a big fan of the show with Doireann on it. Thought the new version of the show had a very shaky start, they were speaking over each other, Carl and Donncha sounded kind of nervous, which I hadn't noticed before. Must be hard when one of the hosts is in a totally different studio, but previously, you'd barely notice.

However, this week they have hit a groove and are working out when each other likes to speak and sense of humour etc. The conversation is flowing much better and I think/hope it will go on from here.

Donnacha was signed up to cohost the 6pm sports show with Ruby Walsh but when Eoghan McDermott left suddenly (to concentrate on other projects) he was moved hastily to The breakfast Show

Now Eoghan was a lad going places for sure

Despite his issues, as a presenter, least that was his thing, he had some personality, like it or not

Id love to be a fly on the wall in the meetings where they came up with the lineup for both shows

Ruby is a dose on the radio, I accidentally heard it one night (i have nothing against him personally) But you are dropping in lads with no experience into prime slots

RTE selection process is akin to the MEP elections

A handy one for Ruby, Mondays and Tuesdays, decent wedge no doubt. I think Game On is really out of place in the 2FM schedule at this stage. In depth coverage of camogie and ladies football last night, simply can't be of appeal to their target market? I wonder what the ratings are for the program, never see it mentioned in the JNLR reports.

i remember when the second captains left off the ball it was because they wanted this 6pm slot

but the drop off was 300k to 70k from the drive time program, no doubt that was 300k at peak and dropped off as people left cars

Talk is literally cheap in radio. Instead of paying out royalties to record companies or unsigned artists, you're raking in sponsorship money talking about a topical matter. And you can see from OTB, Second Captains etc that there's big audiences for listening about sports. Look how much content BBC Sounds puts out.

Anyway enough about Game On, this is the Brekkie show thread. Carl and Afric were a really popular pairing on weekends so she was the natural choice to pair up with him as the rapport should already have been there, but I do have to agree that Donnacha is a bit of an awkward new friend at the moment.

The songs Carl does are completely lower common denominator comedy.

Write down random shite and sing it to an air of some song whilst the other duo in the booth literally cry with laughter.

While I do enjoy the show and think Carl can be funny, the songs are mostly shite and the humour seems to come from him screeching off-key rather than funny writing unfortunately.

That will surely be the route they go. The 2FM line-up, never mind the Breakfast show doesn't need any more disruption. It can easily be done by the 2 of them.

Happy for the caller today that won Clockblocker! Questions had been getting a smidge easier of late, presume they wanted to give it away before Doireann left and it didn't happen, so tried again before Donncha leaves.
