Hypontech Inverter - Work mode

    Morning All,

Recently entered the world of Solar, had the following installed.

    Hypontech HES-5000

    2 * 5kw Dyness batteries

    9.6 KW of panels.

Performance has been good, altho i'm confused by what i think appears to be an inability to really set the load priority to follow a rule of Pulling from Solar, Battery and then finally grid.

The Inverter appears to have a number of "Work Modes"

    General Mode

    Backup Mode

    Off-Grid mode

    Feed in priority mode

    User Mode

Have other come across this issue where when the solar cannot meet the demand the battery takes up the slack, and when this demand drops, the solar meets the house demand and then tops up the battery again, once the battery is full export to the grid.

Maybe im asking too much but right now to meet this some of the way I need to change the mode, from user mode to general mode over night to live off the battery :(

What are you looking to do?

What you described seems to be the general mode of what inverters hybrid inverters do

Solar covers load, any excess goes to battery.

Solar isnt covering load, battery fills in gap until its discharging at full power, grid then steps in.

solar then recovers battery when large load goes away.

If battery is empty, Grid takes over.

Exactly like you described it, Pull from Solar, not enough capacity, pull from battery, not enough capacity, pull from Grid.

excess Solar fills battery, then exports to the Grid.

It's not doing it however based on the "Work Modes" I've tried, and I'm really asking if any others who have the same Inverter has ran in to this issue.

Then what is it doing? - Possibly Ct isnt in correct position, not clipped closed properly, but need more specific symptoms on how its behaving.

Ok, so, I discharged some of the batteries and switched over to general mode.

Here we see the battery charging and the house demand being met

Here I'm adding loads via a kettle and we see the battery helping, with grid import also.

Once the battery is charged, we see the panels only generate enough to run the house, with a tiny export.

You could argue it's weather related, but when I change over to user mode..

So.. general mode, works, solar + battery + grid for import, but on export it only meets the house demand and exports next to nothing.

Someone had this with another inverter. Is there a setting to change the amount of export the inverter can do? It's as if it's export limiting to 0(ish)

That would make sense alright, altho I haven't located anything in the app as of yet that points to limiting the export based on the general profile.

Haven't been able to locate an engineers or user manual as of yet

What about on the inverter itself? Advanced settings?

Thats a job for tomorrow morning for sure, but it is the next port of call.

Good catch on the manual, altho it's more wiring and cabling as opposed to OS related and config .

In the parameter settings go to fixed active power and on the 2nd section make it -6000 instead of zero.

Have had a hypontech inverter for nearly two years. It's grand once you get through initial set up.

+86 138 1481 5203 that's they're WhatsApp technical number. They can do everything remotely aswell but there's bit of a delay in them coming back to you.

    Legend..

I had some suspicions about that figure, but wasn't sure about poking around.

I must reach out to the support number and ask them if they are or have opened an API to the inverter, might be handy for some grid shifting automation.

Dont expect miracles now 😂 but it does all it needs to. Can charge batteries at night etc. I'm not the biggest fan of it. I install different inverters because I feel they're better but it works well enough for me now that ive got all the small things sorted. And my soluna HV battery isn't compatible with Solis etc

    Felt like I should've been working for they're R & D team for a while

    Hi,

I know this is few months old but I have a similar issue with an Hypontech HHT-5000 (3 phase, installed in Feb this year)

The Meter Limiting Power settings work (but not if there's load above ~400w). Did you have any luck with the Hypontech support, Dr4gul4?

I don't seem to have the Meter Limit Mode ajmacl has which would be good for 3 phase net exporting.

    Hi!

I just recently had my HHT-5000 installed with a 7kWh battery.

Since the very beginning, I have experienced a certain amount of power being exported to the grid.
During the day when the production covers the consumption and battery charging (which is not yet full) up to 174W is being exported. Even during the nighttime. the battery covers both the consumption and up to 174W export. This is extremely annoying during autumn and winter when the sunlight is scarce and I see no point in exporting that while it will be economically more effective to store it in a battery.

I reported that to the company that installed it and also contacted the manufacturer in China. They both said it is some kind of buffer and it cannot be adjusted. I tried to adjust the Meter Limiting power settings but the results have no logic in them :/

Finally, the installer told me they could request the manufacturer to turn off the export option completely so export will not happen at all. I agreed and am waiting for them to complete the task. In spring I will request them to turn export back again when there is more sunlight.

Does anyone have a similar experience too?

    Hi @JeanLuc87 ,

I don't have that problem, that part works well in my installation. If anything it's more likely to keep importing small amounts than to export...
    What brand is the battery?

I presume you've got it on General Work Mode (nothing else works on mine)
If you set the Meter Limiting Power in the Active Power settings to 0 it should stop exporting. But just in case on the same screen set the Fixed Active Power to 0 too.
The Limiting Power is in Watts (negative to export) the Fixed Active Power is % of your inverter total power (5kW for the HHT-5000). If you've done both and it's still exporting it could be an issue with the CT clamp or the meter.

    Hi @elsnbie ,

The battery is Pylontech and was installed with the Hypontech inverter as a set.

I use the General Mode from the start. I set the Meter Limiting Power to 0 (originally set to -10000) and the Fixed Activer Power to 0 too. The only thing that changed was to stop exporting during the night when only the battery was being discharged. However during the day when the production is low (Autumn) it is used along with battery power for consumption AND export :(
